Chart Prepared But Still Your Ticket a waiting list. How To Get Confirm Seat in Train
Indtroduction- Getting confirmed seats in season is very challenging. If your ticket is still not confirmed after the final chart preparation then your ticket is considered cancelled since you booked online. There is still a chance of getting a confirmed seat even if you have reached the railway station or are running in the train through some features of Irctc.
Such incident occurred with all of us that we have to travel on urgent basis and we find the train ticket always showing a long waiting list. As it’s urgent to travel, you finally book your train ticket even after showing the waiting ticket. We normally leave the home for the railway station some time after charting is done. We are worried about the waiting list and reached the railway station expecting that Indian railway will allot you a seat against the waiting list but unfortunately it remains on the waiting list even after final chart preparation is done.
There the some important feature of irctc has introduced that can help you to get confirm seat are below
Current Availibility -
Current availability is a new system introduced by Indian railway were you can book train ticket at very lower cost. Its only available when the train chart is prepared and still some seats are left. Those seats is been offered as a current availability on discounted rate.
You can check current availability at official website and Rail connect app and also you can book through IRCTC official website and app online or PRS counter both.
Check Quotas -
Quota is one of the best options to get confirmed seats. Indian railway has issued a quota system and divides all seats into different quotas. There are 12 types of quota available. You can book ticket under these quota.
TQ- Tatkal Quota- You can book ticket before one day of departure of train
PT- Premium Tatkal- IRCTC increases the cost of fare as the seat goes down. Booking is one day advance like Tatkal.
GN- General Quota- General Quota allows you to book train ticket in advance from 1 day to 120 days.
LD- Ladies Quota- As the name suggests only ladies can book tickets under this quota.
SS- Lower Berth Quota ( senior Citizen Quota) – To avail this feature male age should be 60 years and female should be 48 years.
HP- Physically Handicapped Quota– under this quota only disabled passenger can book ticket.
HO- Headquarters/ High official Quota- this quota is allotted for Railways VIP, Bureaucrats and passenger with emergency.
PH- Parliament House Quota- Allotted quota is for members of parliament MP.

Vikalp Scheme -
Vikalp Scheme is made only for passengers with waitlisted tickets to help them to get confirmed seats. Under this scheme you can opt for alternative trains. If you have booked a waiting list ticket this scheme gives you the option to choose alternative trains upto seven trains apart from your original train. If your ticket in original train is not confirmed after chart preparation then there is a chance to confirm your seats in another train.
Opting a Vikalp Scheme does not guarantee that irctc will alot you a seat. It is subject to berth availability in the option train.
How to opt- You can opt for Vikalp Scheme very easily once you have successfully booked train ticket. PNR number is flashed in front of your screen. If your ticket is waiting list then automatic you will be asked to choose Vikalp Scheme. You just need to click on Vikalp Scheme button and select your best suitable train. You can also opt this scheme later also.
Different Train Rout-
Alternet route is also an option, you can board a train that is going at the same destination but routes are different and most important thing is seats must be available. You need to check the fare and timing taken by the train before booking.
Online Reservation Chart-
If all ideas fail then try this to check online Reservation Chart. Its new service started by Indian Railway in 2018 as a pilot project later covered all the trains in 2019. You can book the vacant train ticket without visiting ticket counter at the station.
Important feature of the online train reservation where Irctc allows the passenger to check the seat status on real time basis on the official website and Rail connect app and you can book the seats online before 30 minutes of train departure.
Important Notes – If you are travelling from mumbai ( Lokmanya Tilak LTT ) to gorakhpur GKP and your ticket is still waiting you are trying to get a berth anyhow. Online reservation chart is one of the best solutions but it has some tricks that you should know. For example you are travelling from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus to Gorakhpur JN and during the season you will not be able to get a vacant berth from Lokmanyatilak to gorakhpur in one go. So what you need to do is find out the next railway station that must be a junction from where your train is about to depart.
Once you find the next junction railway station, in my case I found the Bhopal Junction after Lokmanya Tilak Terminus LTT railway station. Then search the vacant seat in two parts first Lokmanya tilak to Bhopal JN then Bhopal JN to Gorakhpur in the same Train. In two parts you will easily get vacant seats so Use this trick and get confirm berth.
Once you find the vacant berth from online reservation chart then you can book the ticket from there itself. If it don’t allow then ask TTE Travelling ticket examiner to allot vacant seat to you after making ticket fare.
